Valentine’s Day is often associated with cards and treats, but in early childhood classrooms, it’s also an opportunity to teach kindness, communication, and positive social habits. At CVA, February lessons focus on helping children understand how thoughtful actions can strengthen friendships and classroom relationships.
Throughout the month, children participate in activities that encourage caring behaviors—such as sharing materials, helping classmates, using kind words, and expressing appreciation. Valentine-themed crafts and games provide a fun way to practice these skills while supporting fine motor development and creativity.
February learning also supports early literacy and math. Children practice ABC recognition, rhyming, counting, and shape identification using heart-themed materials and hands-on games. These playful experiences help reinforce skills while keeping children engaged and motivated.
Teachers intentionally guide group discussions and activities that help children express feelings, listen to others, and resolve small conflicts. These moments build confidence and help children develop strong communication skills that support learning beyond the classroom.
By focusing on kindness and connection, February becomes more than a holiday—it becomes a meaningful time for children to grow socially and emotionally. At CVA, we use this month to help children practice being thoughtful learners and caring classmates every day.
