It’s a Small World: How Children Learn Connection Through Play
February is a wonderful time to focus on connection, cooperation, and understanding others. At Christian Village Academy, our “It’s a Small World” theme helps children explore how they relate to their classmates and the world around them through play-based learning.
Young children naturally learn best through interaction. Group activities, shared projects, and imaginative play teach important social skills such as taking turns, listening, sharing, and working together. Whether children are building with blocks, creating heart-themed art, or participating in storytelling circles, they are learning how their actions affect others.
Classroom activities this month also support early academic development. Children practice letter recognition, counting, rhyming, and language skills using hands-on materials that keep learning engaging and meaningful. Exploring maps, books, and stories about the world encourages curiosity while helping children understand that people can be different and still connect.
Social-emotional growth is just as important as academics in early childhood. February’s lessons emphasize kindness, empathy, and communication—skills that help children feel confident and supported in group settings. Teachers guide children through conversations and activities that encourage expressing feelings, respecting boundaries, and celebrating teamwork.
By combining early learning with opportunities for connection, CVA creates an environment where children feel valued and included. February reminds us that learning is stronger when we grow together.
